It’s in Brooklyn, New York City, that “Noble Society” was born in 1998. An amazing mix, drawing its strengh into influences comming from all over the world as Guyana, Jamaïca, Spain, Switzerland or Georgia.
More than an identity, Noble Society created it’s own way of making music. These magicians interconnect their musical styles together, celebrating what they call “Hardcore Niceness”, showing people how much they deserve to be loved. One of the best opportunities we had, in a crazy atmosphere. Decryption.
Jahdan is the Reggae Dancehall voice of the band. He is from English Guyana, immigrated to NYC when he was six. He feels easy to write conscious lyrics, having unbordered influences of genders, like Kalypso and Mental music as well as Dj Premier. The type of guy who has so much positive energy that you leave him with the feeling of having raised up and the will to climb mountains. When we met them, they didn’t hesitate to sing such as a bird posse celebrating the spring coming. Free boys.
Delie was born in Brooklyn, with jamaïcan origins. He is the kind of MC running the mike like crazy, with amazing punchlines, always a chick on his right, a beer on his left. The kind of guy that is able to open a beer and drink it down in one shot just before going on stage. Getting in touch with them, the X-Ray manager told us not to be afraid of him. “This poet is just a bit schizophrenic”.
The founder of the band, Fuego, is a child of the world. Guitarist from his childhood on, he studied music in one of the worlds famous music schools, Berklee. This genius already did a european tour with AfuRa, giving an idea of his level. He is just the guy standing behind the turntables, responsible for the great instrumentals they produce.
For them, music is nothing more than an action of peace and love. They project positive music and get back positive results. In a sense, it’s karma, reviving people’s spirituality, putting creative powers together, creating an action/reaction effect on the crowd once on stage. For Fuego, the sense of life and what he wants to trigger is just to “try to open one’s eyes, the third eye opening the inner vision, permitting to reach wiseness and happiness” (this one was quite heavy, yeah).
The three guys came together in Brooklyn around 1995, rocking lots of nightclubs there and in Manhattan. Outside of NYC as well, with Boston, San Francisco, L.A., St Louis, Missouri... But five years later, they went beyond the US borders to Europe, making a major tour in 2003 with their album “Words to the wise”. One year later, one more album, “Take Charge” becomes best reggae album on Itunes. Since Noble Society is travelling, they discovered in Europeans an appreciation of musical fusions, experience and ideal of HipHop and Reggae, transcending Dubstep, Jungle and Grime.
What should we say more about this uncommon, amazing reggae band than to invite you to catch them in a concert hall !
